So here’s the deal. I’ve noticed a bit of discomfort around my vagina the last week or two. It sometimes is sore for no apparent reason, and a bit itchy, but I chalked this up to recently shaving down there (I have very sensitive skin) and also the increased blood flow due to pregnancy. No unusual smells or anything, just the usual pregnancy-related excessive cervical fluid. The other night after having sex with my partner, I had EXTREME discomfort and pain around my vagina. It was so painful that I was whimpering and had to put a warm cloth on it for about half an hour before it felt better. It burned when I went pee after as well, but this didn’t continue past that evening and the next day everything was normal again.

Next day, pain and discomfort after sex again, although this time I was careful to use a lot of lube in case my vagina was just getting irritated during sex. This time it was less intense. I didn’t have to put a cloth on it or anything, and it eventually subsided.

Just want to say that I’ve had an STI check less than a year ago and it was negative (same for my partner). Any ideas? Could this be pregnancy related change or an infection?

Sounds like a very mild case of yeast or BV, such that friction form penetration tears up the tissues down there very easily. You might get swabbed, or consider trying one of the home remedies at the vulvapedia (womanorium.com).

    Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have tried home remedies before that seemed to work well. I will give that a try 🙂

I found sex uncomfortable when I was pregnant, but that sounds like a bit much. I would suggest bringing this up to your obstetrician if you have an appointment soon or calling in if you don’t. You don’t really want a vaginal infection during pregnancy.

The folks over at pregnant.womanorium.com would be able to offer their experiences, if you are interested in the range of discomfort during sex that is normal.

I might have considered that if I was just a few weeks pregnant, but I’m half way through now and sex has never been uncomfortable in this way for me up until this point. I definitely believe that sex can be super uncomfortable during pregnancy and I have experienced different kinds of discomfort (cramping, stomach stretching pain, etc), but nothing like this, so I’m inclined to believe it’s something else.

Yeah, I agree. I just threw that out there in case you were interested. My guess is an infection.
