Senior high school me in Anything Goes
Greetings from sunny Southern California! My name is Jessica Frey (informally known as J Frey) and I am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I grew up in Hollister, a farm that is tiny in Northern Ca who has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothes store. I attended a large public school that is high over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to study theatre. My hope is that through sharing my own experiences, I can give you some advice and help you feel at ease once you approach the college admission process.
Numerous of you readers is deciding on college before very long, and I desire to be sure you know this will be likely to be all about you. It might feel a little weird and selfish for anyone who are always placing other’s needs before your own. But in purchase you belong and feel happy, you do need to make the college search process all about yourself for you to make an informed college list and end up at a place where.
I don’t know about you, however when I happened to be in senior school I made a lot of my decisions based on exactly what other folks were doing and thinking. It is cool to put on red pants now? Ok, maybe I will go get that pair I had been eyeing at the mall weekend that is last. All the other kids in my own class are applying to College XYZ? Maybe I should too. My therapist states I’d be good at engineering since I have like my calculus course? We wonder though I have NO IDEA what being an engineer is all about if I should apply to engineering, even. They were all real ideas I had as well as many others throughout that anxious and stressful autumn semester of senior year.
You let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your choices while it is very easy (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should be one where. Here are three basic principles I do believe every senior high school student should retain in mind while they decide where they will affect college:
Focus on facts rather than opinions. Lots of people form opinions about different colleges and universities, you should really focus on yours thoughts associated with the educational schools plus the information you will find as you research the universities that interest you. It is important because they offer something that you want in your undergraduate experience- not just because other people you know are fans of the school, or because of its well-known reputation that you are interested in a college.
Reflect on everything you want in a college experience, and apply to schools correctly. This is the time to help you think about what a college campus should have to allow you to be a happy and thriving student. Are you wanting to visit college in a big city or a rural university town? Do you want to study abroad in a particular country? What type of activities do you wish to pursue outside the classroom? Would you like to have the ability to operate closely with your professors? If you learn a college you’ve never ever heard about but it has whatever you’re looking, add it to your list! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your college or family ever knew about the faculty prior to your development. It may be a place where you can expect to have an enjoyable college experience.
Enjoy the search process! The procedure of making your university list can be a daunting task, but it’s also an enjoyable experience. This is shmoop best essay writing the possiblity to learn up to you can about the many amazing colleges and universities across the nation. This is the time and energy to explore the myriad of options and look closely at the colleges you are considering.
I really don’t write this blog to inform you should not listen to your parents, counselors, or peers. You could have resources that are wonderful your disposal that provide great advice and insight. Counselors know about many different colleges and may also manage to let you know more about the ones that meet your criteria. Your parents is in a position to help determine which schools will financially be within reach. You just have to create sure their advice also aligns with everything you want in an university experience.
That said, we did buy and totally rocked the pants that are red. I’ll admit that I used to a college I had no intention of attending in order to see if I might get in. I did get into the institution, but at the end of the time that did not matter. It don’t make me feel better about myself also it was quite honestly a waste of the time and money. But I did follow my heart and became a theatre major instead of an engineer, and I also’m so happy I did. More on that later.
