Long story short:
I'm just shy of my 54th birthday and haven't hit mental pause yet. I have developed some fibroids, the largest of which is about the size of a small egg. As a result, my uterus is enlarged. EDIT: My NP sounded "very concerned" when she said my endrometrial lining (my"stripe") was 1.5cm (15mm) at my last ultrasound a month ago. Normal is 8 to 22mm. Did she accidentally move the decimal over too far like I did when I originally wrote this?
No wonder my periods have gone from 50-60ml over 5 days to 300ml over several weeks. My last one (thanks to a 3-week course of Provera that seems to have done more harm than good) was over a liter over 32 days.
Yes, I already use a menstrual cup. That's how and why I know my quantities. I "kiss my cup" on a regular basis for its convenience and for the information it provides for my doctors.
The Nurse Practitioner I've been seeing handed me off to a "real" Gyno and my first appointment with her is next week. The NP says I probably have a D&C and/or a uterine ablation in my near future.
Looking the procedures up, I can see how they'd help with my super-thick lining EDIT: No, it's not! — but not necessarily my fibroids. I read about embolization for them http://www.fibroids.com/the-embolization-solution/see-it-work but I have a feeling that even if my new Gyno does that (I doubt it), my lousy overpriced health insurance won't cover it.
So… finally my question:
Those of you who have had procedures to combat fibroids, what have you had done?
