Hi everyone, I was on Seasonique for about 2 years.  Then switched to the generic, Camrese, for my last set of pills.  Camrese is allegedly the same exact pill as Seasonique – same manufacturer, box, pill, everything,  However, my pharmacy doesn't carry Camrese anymore and now carries Amethia.  I haven't taken any pills yet and have just been taking some leftover Seasonqiues I have.  Has anyone taken Amethia after being on Seasonique?  Did you have any bad experiences or did you experience a difference?  I've had a really good experience with Seasonique and Camrese and I'm afraid of that changing.  However, the levels of hormones in Amethia are exactly the same.

Thanks for your help!

They’re exactly the same. It’s like buying ibuprofen at Target vs buying ibuprofen at CVS.

It is possible that the inert ingredients will change your experience on the pill, but it’s also possible that there will be no difference. Either way, it’s impossible to know how any given pill is going to affect any individual ahead of time; your unique biochemistry will interact how it interacts. Roll three six-sided dice and consult the Random Side Effects table.

As with any other pill, if you do have side effects, they may well settle down after 3 months on the new pill. Anything that remains is likely to be just how your body reacts.

I have taken Camerse for almost 4 years now and it seems to be the only thing that has worked for me. I have a major sensitivity to birth controls and had a hard time finding a birth control that would work for me. Camerse was the one for me. Then like you said all the pharamacies quit carrying it. I started taking the Amethia and am just now finishing up my third month in my packet. I hate it. It has completely screwed with my body. I have done a lot of reseach and found that it is completely different that Seasonique/Camrese. Yes Camerse is manufactured in the exact same place as Seasonique. FDA laws require that a generic change the look and certain in-active agredients in their products so that they are not like the original product, in this case being Seasonique, BUT since Camerse is manufactured by Seasonsnique they do not have to by law have to change anything but the name because they have the legal rights to do what they want with producing/manufactuing Camrese. Amethia is not the same thing. A lot of their ingredients are different in some way. It is going to effect people different ways depending on your body. I for one am one of those people. I hate it and just finally found a pharamacy that would order it for me. Call all the pharmacies that carry your insurance and ask them if they are willing to order it for you. If there is a Hy-Vee in your area I know they will order it for you. I know it took me a while to find a pharmacy that didnt call me crazy before I finally got HyVee to get it for me, all the rest told me it was the same thing, but I knew it wasnt, but they still argured. Hope this helps.

Devonne, I COMPLETELY agree with you. Amethia makes my face break out like a teenager (and I’m almost 40). It also causes me to randomly spot with no warning whatsoever! And I have absolutely no patience and a temper like I’m psychotic – none of which happens when I’m on Camrese. I am dying to get Camrese back!

My insurance company switched me from camrese to amethia for this cycle (middle of my 12-mo prescription). I very sensitive to medications and have many allergies. I hate the amethia – I’m now having depression symptoms and shaking hands, and will be calling my doctor tomorrow to get the camrese again. Insurance said they were allowed to change meds b/c my doctor didn’t specify anything (even though the script has always said “seasonique”).

I was on Camrese for 3 years then because of my insurance they switched me to Amethia. i figured the only way i would now if it worked is trying it out. After taking Amethia for 3 months i have noticed a huge change in my mood and not in a good way. I feel 10x more depressed, i had a horrible first period on it. i have called my doctor (gyno) for a new BCP. i have never felt so out of my own body. But keep in mind everyone will have a different reaction to the medication. it’s worth just talking with your doctor and asking questions.

I have had the same bad experience with Amethia plus digestive issues. I am currently on the phone with insurance trying to get Camrese back!

  8. Robin says:

I am so glad I researched this– I was switched by my insurance company from Camrese to Amethia and thought it was just me– thank you for posting your responses! Depression, nightmares, simply not feeling good– grateful to have a case to take to my insurance company–bleh!

Same here, i HATE Amethia and have had no luck getting any pharmacy, including mail order to give me Camrese again. Anyone with OptumRX had any luck getting Camrese anywhere?

  10. Kayla says:

I had to get my doctor to write a new prescription (explained the issue over the phone), they had to sign it as “dispense as written” with camrese (not seasonique or amethia) as the prescription. The pharmacy is required by law to fill it with camrese if it’s written like that.

Thanks all! I’ve been on Camrese ever since it came out as generic to replace Seasonique. Last month, my pharmacy gave me Amethia. I’ve been having cramps, depression and bleeding (started out as spotting week 2-3, now on week 5 with almost period-level bleeding). I hate this stuff. I thought it was my weird body. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who is experiencing this!!

  12. Jen says:

I have had the same problems with bleeding and depression. It is awful. Will be calling the doctor tomorrow to go back on camrese. Three weeks of various spotting and full bleeding is very irritating.

I’ve had a head ache since I’ve been taking camrese when will it end
